Let’s be honest.

The work we get to do in the Defense Industrial Base is pretty cool.

It’s bold.

It’s important.

But it’s often sensitive.

Whether you’re the company building part of a new weapon system or the end-user employing it down range; whether you’re the startup with the just-crazy-enough new idea or the investor with an eye to the future; whether you’re the matchmaker or the requirement holder—or anything in between—to paraphrase Regina George’s mom: we’re not like other platform users.

This was a huge reason we built Mission Cultivate.

It turns out, traditional social media that is open to anyone might not be the best place to talk about government needs and the technologies we’re working to meet them.

A platform that throttles your reach because you used the word ‘bomb’ or ‘lethal’ is not designed for the DIB.

We all need something more secure, which I know is a loaded word.

So let me dive into what we mean (and what we don’t) when we say MC is the more secure platform you need to connect to other defense professionals.

First, MC is hosted on AWS GovCloud, which leverages industry-leading standards to protect sensitive data. With GovCloud, we are able to balance protections with a reasonably low threshold for entry to allow the widest audience of relevant, verified users.

That verification process is hugely important, and it’s why we’re comfortable telling government and industry users they can trust MC for their sensitive conversations. We verify every user who requests to join MC:

1. Is who they say they are
2. Has a need to be on the platform

We limit participants to U.S. and select allied and partner nations—specifically those in defense and national security.

Within MC, users can have candid unclassified conversations that would not be appropriate for a more public forum. Because MC is not on the government network, it is not cleared for classified or otherwise controlled government information. Instead we’ve built a place where users can connect easily with the right people and then move conversations to higher security levels as needed.

We’ve done all this knowing that the typical MC user values their data privacy. It’s something our team is very well versed in, having run a government marketplace ourselves!
